About your flight instructor

Zach weins

My name is Zach Wiens and I am the owner of Oregon Flight Instruction. I have had a passion for aviation since I was a young child. From paper airplanes to building model rockets I was fascinated by everything that flies. Directly out of high school I joined the Airforce and spent 4 years as an Aircraft Crash Rescue Firefighter. Being around military planes further ignited my urge to learn how to fly but it had always seemed out of reach. After leaving the military I went to work for a large Fire Department where I have been since 2007. Being a firefighter has taught me a lot about being calm under pressure and problem solving. Things that translate over very well into aviation. It also allows me a flexible schedule with a lot of time to devote to flying.

In early 2016 I started my flight training at Twin Oaks Airpark and after 3 short months the life long dream finally came true, I obtained my Private Pilot Certificate. I was absolutely hooked and knew that I wanted aviation to be much more than just a hobby, that I wanted to teach others how to fly. I continued my flight training getting my Instrument rating, allowing me to fly in the clouds, and my Commercial Pilot Certificate allowing me to fly for hire. I then finally completed my Flight Instructor certificate which enables me to share my passion for aviation with others. Flight instruction isn’t just a stepping stone for me but an area of aviation that I feel very passionate about.

Being a pilot has allowed me to have some of my most memorable experiences. Flying over Crater Lake, around Mount Hood, and along the Seattle skyline. Venturing into the Frank Church Wilderness in Idaho to land and camp at the dozens of grass airstrips, many of which are only accessible by airplane. Flying makes the world so much smaller. Swapping a 13 hour drive to Yellowstone into a beautiful 3 hour flight. The 7 hour trek to Orcas Island is now only a 90 minute flight away, turning it into a day trip.

I look forward to finding out what makes you want to fly. Whether that is to check a bucket list item, travel for business or to become an airline pilot. Together we can reach your goals.
